What South Carolina requires
- At the customer's request, structural and household pest control applicators provide a fully legible statement for each application with the company's name and address, the pests to be controlled, the common chemical name of each active ingredient (not the brand name), and the responsible licensed applicatorS.C. Code Regs. 27-1083 A (1)
- The customer statement names the responsible licensed applicatorS.C. Code Regs. 27-1083 A (1) (b) (4)
- The firm's records of all pesticides used give the quantity, the common chemical name of the active ingredients, the brand name and EPA registration number, the pest or purpose (household pests or general insect control is enough for routine work), and the date and place of applicationS.C. Code Regs. 27-1083 C (1), (2)
- Termiticide records (pretreatments, post-construction treatments and bait systems) are kept five years or as long as a warranty or contract continues, whichever is longer; other application records are kept two yearsS.C. Code Regs. 27-1083 C (3)
- Every termiticide application, including retreatments, booster treatments, bait installations and wood treatments, is recorded on the Department's Record of Termiticide Use form or an accepted alternativeS.C. Code Regs. 27-1085 B (6)
- Wood-destroying organism work follows the regulation's methods; a preventive treatment where no organism is present (other than subterranean termites) is disclosed in writing beforehand, an active Formosan subterranean termite infestation must be disclosed, and warranty, treatment, waiver and inspection records are kept five years or the warranty's lifeS.C. Code Regs. 27-1085 A, B (1) to (4)
- Vehicles used to carry or apply pesticides bear the Department's identification symbol on both sides, kept clean and recognizable from 100 feetS.C. Code Regs. 27-1083 B
- Structural pest control activity is regulated by the director under the South Carolina Pesticide Control Act and the regulations made under itS.C. Code 46-13-55
The statement a customer can request
Any customer may ask for a fully legible statement for an application on their property: the company's name and address, the pests controlled, the common chemical name of each active ingredient rather than the brand, and the responsible licensed applicator. Under a continuing household contract, general pest terms and several alternative chemicals may be listed.
The firm's records
Keep records of every pesticide used: the quantity, the active ingredient's common chemical name, the brand name and EPA registration number, the pest or purpose, and the date and place. Routine household work may simply say household pests. Termite records stay five years or for the life of the warranty or contract; other records two years.
Termite and wood-destroying organism work
Record every termiticide application, including retreatments, boosters, baits and wood treatments, on the Department's Record of Termiticide Use form. Disclose an active Formosan subterranean termite infestation, and tell the customer in writing before a preventive treatment when no organism is present.
Vehicles
Every vehicle that carries or applies pesticides shows the Department's identification symbol on both sides, clean and readable from 100 feet.
From the truck to a finished South Carolina record
Note how much of each product you used, its active ingredient, and what it was for. ReportDraft writes the firm record and the customer statement together, using common chemical names, and reminds you when termite work also needs the Record of Termiticide Use form.
Common mistakes
- Giving the customer brand names instead of active ingredient names.
- Leaving the quantity used off the firm's record.
- A termite booster treatment that never reaches the Record of Termiticide Use form.
- Discarding termite records while the warranty is still running.
- A service truck without the Department's symbol on both sides.
